Review & Excerpt & Giveaway: Vendetta by Autumn Karr & Sienna Lane

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Please note: this is not dark romance.

I am not a good man.

I have lied and cheated and stolen. I've decided between life or death, like it was my due. None of it matters, not anymore. These are not my sins.

I see her raise her hands, the dark metal she's clutching reflecting the moonlight. Her finger trembles as she cocks the gun pointed at me. Her eyes are cold, determined, but I know.

I know her.

My name is Devon Andre and I confess my sin. I am not a good man because this is the woman I love.

She pulls the trigger.

Excerpt:
“Don’t think, Devon,” I say, standing up and pulling it over my head, dropping it aside. I walk backwards to my bed and undo the clasp of my bra, letting it dangle on my finger and then fall to the ground. I take my sweatpants off, leaving me in nothing but my panties. When he doesn’t say anything, doesn’t tell me to stop, I sit down on the bed and watch him.
The heat in Devon’s gaze, the intensity in his expression makes me feel like I’m the sexiest girl in the world. He stands up slowly, and walks over to me, his eyes still connected with mine. He gets down on his knees, so his face is almost level with mine. I watch as he takes his fill of me, a soft curse escaping his lips as his gaze touches my breasts.

“I don’t want you,” he says hoarsely, but there’s no fight left in his voice. My breathing hitches as I wait for him to finally touch me.

I don’t dare speak. Putting my palm on his cheek, I decide to make the first move since he won’t. Bringing his face closer to my body, I gasp when his tongue finally peeps out and slowly traces over one nipple, and I know that he’s decided to give in. He pulls my nipple into his mouth, sucking gently, and then running his teeth over it. I squirm under his touch, wanting more.

His mouth releases its torturous hold on my breast and trails wet kisses up my chest, my shoulder and my neck. By the time he reaches my mouth, I can feel how damp my panties are, and my thighs are trembling. He swipes his tongue across my lips, begging entrance. He kisses me hungrily, delving into my mouth, tasting me. He pushes me back onto the bed with the force of his body, grinding his hips into mine. I feel his erection pressing into me, and it gets me even more excited. Grasping my wrists in his hand, Devon lifts my hands above my head and presses them into the mattress. His other hand traces from my temple, over my cheek and jawline, and finally rests on my neck. Pulling his mouth away, he rests his forehead against mine, his breathing as heavy as my own.

“I don’t fucking want you,” he says desperately.

“Devon,” I gasp out when he starts slowly moving against me, our clothes the only barrier between us. He instantly jumps away from me, his expression closing off. He throws a disgusted glance my way as he stands up and takes two steps back, leaving me bare and vulnerable.

Then he turns his back on me and leaves.

Review:
The cover is simply gorgeous, some hot guy, letters written in blood and the whole black/grey thing immediately give you that darker vibe. If that wasn't enough the synopsis will definitely do it for you. It definitely caught my attention.

Now the whole thing going on between Devon and Leighton certainly has a Romeo and Juliet vibe going on. The only difference is, Romeo just wanted to love Juliet meanwhile Devon will be having to kill Leighton. They are of two opposite crime families, whom strongly hate each other. So any connection between these would not end up well.

The story starts of with Leighton spying on Devon, getting caught and kidnapped by him. It starts of very promising, unfortunately that's all it was. While Leighton is kidnapped she often switches between trying to escape and seducing Devon. Honestly whatever is going on between these two is very confusing. They seem to have really strong feelings towards each other, but you have no idea where those come from because these two have never talked to each other before in their life.

That is until you get a little past the half of the story. Even after that big reveal I still din't quite get it. If the authors had started with that or at least gave more hints about it, I could have gotten more into the attraction between Devon and Leighton. I understand the physical attraction, but the emotional part was missing for me.

Devon is supposed to be this total badass and there are a couple of scenes where you might believe that. Still overall it seemed to me that Devon is actually very sweet and soft. So I never really felt the threat of something bad going to happen, at least not coming from him.

Overall Vendetta is a great story and the plot is interesting, but I'm left with the feeling of needing more. As in I need more background information, more intensity, more angst, more character development and more darkness. Like add a 100 pages and this could have easily been four or five stars. So the cover and synopsis were a bit misleading for me. There are a lot of great scenes and it is well written, unfortunately it wasn't quite what I was expecting.
