Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: Suspicious Minds (Fate #3) by Elizabeth Reyes

Good girls cheat too.

It's a bitter reality Lorenzo Moreno knows all too well.

After his "good girl" fiancée blind sides him by cheating on him with her ex Lorenzo swears off relationships for a while, if not forever.

Until Fate steps in.

Unable to fight the incredible pull he feels to Olivia, a girl who was supposed to be just a meaningless one night stand, Lorenzo gives into his heart. But only after making one thing utterly clear. He will not deal with any exe's or other men in her life. Period.

She's not that person anymore.

For too long Olivia Romero shamefully put up with an manipulative and overly controlling boyfriend. So when fate pairs her up with the gorgeous but intense Air Force pilot she's ready to stand her ground. Cutting all ties with her ex is no sacrifice for Olivia. It's why she willingly complies with Lorenzo's uncompromising stipulation.

As their relationship intensifies so do Lorenzo's suspicions about any man in her life. Determined to not be that weak girl anymore, Olivia demands to be trusted. Despite how vehement her new boyfriend can be, her diligence seems to be working.

But when an unforeseen crisis arises Olivia is forced to make a decision. A decision she knows in Lorenzo's jaded and suspicious mind could be unforgivable.

The thing about a Moreno is, they are intense, caring, loving and sexy as hell. Lorenzo was willing to give the world to his fiancée, but one thing Moreno's don't deal with is cheating. Those guys do not share and make this very clear. Why anyone would want to cheat on Lorenzo simply boggles my mind. He such a sweet and good guy, all wrapped up in one hot package. So girl was a fool and poor Lorenzo has been hurt by the experience.

His trust in women is broken, so relationships are out of the question and one night stands are the only safe thing he can do. Until one of those nights steps fully into his life as Olivia Romero, cousin to one of his friends. The night they had was spectacular, and he admits to have been thinking about her. Still seeing her again is too much, too soon. What they felt that night, turns out it wasn't a fluke. There is this real connection between them, and it becomes very difficult to deny it any longer.

Things quickly evolve between them, but there are still some obvious trust issues from Lorenzo. I can understand where he's coming from, and nobody wants to be fooled twice, but at times his suspicions got to be a bit too much. Luckily Olivia is understanding about that, and she's open towards him about her contact with other men. There is never an issue, unless it's about her ex.

Now Olivia's ex is an ass. They've had a difficult past, but she's clearly over that guy and very much in love with Lorenzo. When there is trouble in her hometown involving her best friend and her ex, that's when the real problems arise. That's at least the case in Lorenzo's head. When trust is broken, it needs time to heal, but to me it always seemed that Olivia had to earn Lorenzo's trust when she had done nothing wrong. I wouldn't be able to deal with that, but luckily she could.

When you mix Moreno with Romero, you know there are going to be fireworks. Besides the one-sided trust issues, everything went pretty smoothly. The way this relationship between them works is like a dream. I mean, Lorenzo is a dreamy guy, and anyone would be lucky to call him boyfriend. Olivia is also amazing. She's strong, independent and has a sexual confidence about her that's admirable. These two work very well together, it's really other people that's causing the trouble.

Suspicious Minds was a great and entertaining story. Besides the love part, there is also some mystery and even action involved. That was quite a surprise to me, but I liked it. Lorenzo's suspicions at times was a bit too much for me, but I liked how matter-of-fact Olivia dealt with those. Moreno and Romero together also means a lot of passion and those scenes were extremely hot.

Walking smack into a wall jolted her instantly out of her thoughts. The moment she realized the solid wall was actually a man’s chest was mortifying enough, but when her eyes met Lorenzo’s uncompromising expression, her legs went weak.

“I’m sorry,” she said, feeling her face go hot, and pulled her hand away from his chest where it’d flown in reflex.

She was caught in his intense eyes as she had been earlier. Like she had been so many times the night she met him. But it was only momentarily.

“Don’t be,” he said, glancing away quickly, and if she weren’t mistaken, he seemed a bit panicked. Maybe his wife or fiancée was here. “I wasn’t paying attention either.”

They stood there in heavy silence for a few awkward seconds until she finally smiled and shrugged. “Small world, huh?”

The miniscule nod said he agreed, but his vacant expression now bordered on hard. His eyes lowered, and she gulped when she realized he was staring at her lips. He licked his lips as the memory of his kisses inundated her. Is that what he was thinking of too? She stared at his lips as she felt his face lean in a little closer to hers and froze when she could actually feel his warm breath so close to her lips. Just when she’d been certain he was going to kiss her, he froze too and their eyes met again. “Too small maybe.”

Ouch.

“I can assure you,” he went on as he pulled back suddenly, “if I’d known you’d be here . . .” He glanced away with a frown without finishing then tipped the edge of his hat with a painfully forced smile. “My apologies for running into you,” he said tersely. “Have a good day.”

"Did you sleep with him?" Lorenzo asked his heart spiking despite the fact that he already knew the answer to that.

"Baby—"

"Don't call me that!" he said loudly. "Just answer the fucking question! Did you sleep with him?"

"It's complicated."

"No it's not!" He backed away from her bed feeling the enormous ache in his heart mixed with the anger and disgust inundate him. "It's simple enough. Either you did or you didn't.

Which is it?"

Setup: Isabel's behavior since going back to work—with the professor—has become increasingly strange. The behavior hasn't gone unnoticed by Romero who's trying his damndest to not jump to conclusions.

Isabel had just finished pouring herself a cup of tea when Romero rushed into the kitchen.

“I gotta go,” he informed her. “Your car’s in the way. Where are your keys?”

Isabel turned just in time to see him heading for her purse on the counter. Without thinking, she practically lunged toward it and grabbed it before he could. He froze on the spot and stared at her until she looked down at her purse, feeling like an idiot. Without asking, she already knew what he was thinking.

“What’s that about?” he asked, glaring down at her purse as she fished her keys out.

“I gotta go too,” she said. “So no need to move my car. I was just leaving.”

He was still peering at her with that telling heat in his eyes, and he tilted his head. “Anything we need to talk about?”

“Nope,” she said trying to sound playful, but he still wasn’t smiling.

In fact, his glare had gone harder. “You hiding something from me, Isabel?”

“Yes,” she admitted, trying to smile genuinely, especially after hearing him call her Isabel. She leaned in and kissed him. “Christmas is just around the corner, baby. There are things hidden all over, including my purse.”

They stood there facing off for a moment more before he leaned in and kissed her back since he hadn’t so much as puckered up the first time. “I’ll be glad when I find out what this surprise of yours is because it’s making you jumpy as shit.”

Review, Guest Post & Giveaway: Felix (5th Street #5) by Elizabeth Reyes

How I got into fighting by Felix Sanchez

I think the moment I first stepped in the ring I knew it's what I wanted to do for a living. Jack the late founder of 5th Street and my father figure for many years saw it in me too.

He knew.

Jack told me early on he saw big things in my future. My first non-official fight was all I needed to confirm it was a passion I wanted to pursue to the fullest. Jack took me under his wing and set everything up. I truly owe it all to him and 5th Street.

When I decided it was time to go professional was after I began to feel like there were no real opponents in amateur boxing for me anymore. I needed more of a challenge and some of my opponents were getting hurt bad. It got so bad there were few who were willing to get in the ring with me. So I took the next step. After getting my first official title under my belt I felt addicted. I wanted more and then I hit the road and never looked back. That is until...

We all make mistakes. We all learn from them. Let's just say I'm still learning.

They say the only good thing about hitting rock bottom is that it can't get any worse . . . or can it?

World famous boxing champ, Felix Sanchez, had it all—the fame, the fortune, and all the women any man could ask for. When the hours of partying followed by hours spent in court and in rehab begin to outnumber the hours he spends training, losing his title comes as no surprise to everyone. The world assumes he deserved to lose it.

Only those closest to Felix know the real truth behind his sudden downward spiral. And if Felix has his way, no one else ever will. With an uncertain future ahead of him, he heads back to his roots—5th Street—the gym that started it all for him. It's where he meets the humble but mighty little Ms. Ella.

The only times Felix had ever decided to forgo the usual meaningless fling and try a real relationship he was burned badly. Now the adorable but tenacious self-defense instructor has him considering this love thing one more time.

Then just when he begins to worry that his past is letting his possessive and jaded heart get the best of him, he's blindsided in the most brutal way—he's brought to his knees—to what could be the one low in his life he may never recover from.

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I never really knew what to think of Felix Sanchez. While he is a 5th Street legend and friend of the boys, because of his big success he always stood a bit apart for me. The last time we got some insight in this man was in Gio, though he has been mentioned a couple of times since then. Years have gone by and it soon becomes clear that there is more to Felix than meets the eye.

We meet up again with Felix just when he hits rock bottom. Losing his title is pretty much the nail to the coffin in this downwards spiral that he's been going through the past couple of years. What might even just be worse, is that he doesn't care that much. Felix is lost and he knows no way out of it, not really sure if he wants out of it. So he returns back home to figure things out.

Returning back to 5th Street is definitely the best decision. His boys help keep his feet on the ground, and they are always there for him. But when little Miss Ella shows up, that's when things really start to turn around. She herself has been through some really terrible stuff, but instead of letting those things put her down, she has turned them into something positive. While pretending she's not impressed with Felix, Ella inadvertently draws his attention.

Down to earth, no bullcrap, little fighting Ella, is just what Felix needs. Never before has he been touched by a girl like that before. Since all these feelings are pretty new to him, he does screw up once in a while and so does she btw, but you know these two deserve a happily ever after. Though it seems fate might not make it that easy for them and this twist in the story definitely came as a surprise to me.

Both of them have already been through so much. Seriously Felix might seem like a giant d-bag at first, but once you've learned what happened to him, well my heart cracked. This big tough guy, who hasn't a care in the world, actually cares so much, you will want to hug him. Meanwhile Ella lost her mom to cancer and one of her best friends went through something unspeakable. These are all burdens they carry with them and the main reason they've kept others at arm's length. The further Ella and Felix get involved, the harder it gets for them to keep that part hidden. Together though they can find love and happiness underneath all that sorrow.

This book is the last in the 5th Street series, and while I'm sad to see it ending, I am also grateful for the way it ended. Felix had always been the hardest one to connect with for me, but now reading his story, that all changed. This heavyweight champion will make you curse at him while melt your heart at the same time. Ella is the perfect counterpart for him. She might be little, but she's very fierce. If there is one girl to bring Felix down on his knees, it's her.

We do get to see the rest of the boys and their ever growing families. It was really fun to catch up with them and certainly that epilogue brought it all to a great closing.
