Review:With this novella we go back a little in time, to right before Hunter moved to town and when his father was still alive.
Hunter's life has been pretty much the same as the Merricks. He's been constantly picked on and always getting into trouble, only he doesn't have any brothers to back him up.
With this tale, it pointed out to me, how regular Hunter actually is. Mostly his social awkwardness around girls, that feeling of not belonging and needing that acknowledgement from his father. This all made it really clear that he is only sixteen.
Clare is actually the first person to show any positive interest in him, but also in his dad's gun room. This should have made some alarm bells ring, but like I said, he's sixteen and naive. Mostly Clare becomes a lesson he needed to learn and it explains a lot how behaves towards other people and that making connections is not that easy for Hunter.
Fearless was interesting, but not necessary for the continuity of the big story. Fun to get more insight, but that's about it.
I LOVE this series! But I do agree that Fearless wasn't completely necessary (unlike Breathless, which you really HAVE to read before you read Secret),
