Tour Review: Wrecked (Wrecked #1) by Priscilla West

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
“There would be no happy ending for us. He was too damaged. I was too broken.”

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy, Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.

Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “the Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

Lorrie knows that Hunter is the exact type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

Review:
Four pages in and I'm already thinking, damn the cards that life dealt her. No one would blame Lorrie for dropping out of college. Still I like her attitude. Terrible things have happened, but she is ready to move forward and to start living again. She knows it won't be easy and it will take a while to feel 'normal' again. Ever since what happened to her parents she's been numb and just going through the motions.

Until she meets Hunter. A very hot guy, but more than that he treats her like she's normal. It is obvious they are attracted to each other and Hunter wants to act on that, instead they agree to be friends. Lorrie isn't ready for a relationship and Hunter actually has his own issues to get through. Still the more time they spend together the harder it gets for Lorrie to deny the attraction. With everything that has happened it is okay for her to feel scared. Afraid of heartbreak, too much emotion and getting hurt. What she needs know is stability and entering a relationship with her amount of baggage, she's afraid she will break, again.

I like how they start out as friends. You know it's just a matter of time until something happens between these two. Having that base as friends makes the connection and feelings between these two more real. No instant love, but a steadily growing relationship.

I really, really loved Hunter. Besides being a badass MMA fighter, he has a goofy side to him as well. He is definitely not the stereotype player bad boy. Hunter has his sexual adventures, but he doesn't kiss and tell, it's all gossip. Also he's living off campus, alone in an apartment. He goes to class, fights and once in a while hangs out with his best friend Gary. Actually he's a bit of a loner, really.

What I also liked was how he isn't afraid to speak his mind. He is still trying to figure out what he wants overall in life, like many kids in college. One big thing that really set him apart, was how he talks about his feelings. He dares to speak out as first and lay it all out. Chances are his heart will get broken, but he's daring to take a change. So brave.

Meanwhile Lorrie wants to ease into normal again. Which means going to classes and hang out with her friends, that's it. Let's just say Hunter was not in her plans. Still she likes hanging out with him, so they can be friends. It's when more might happen that she starts freaking out. It kind got on my nerves towards the end, because she kept saying she wanted to be friends and then got jealous when he was talking to another girl. With the weird part, where Hunter has to apologise so often for things he never did wrong, because they are just friends.

Slowly though her life is getting on the right track again and she's afraid that if she gives in to Hunter, that might get disrupted. I can understand that completely, only I thought she would be braver. Lorrie is so hesitant when it comes to Hunter. Meanwhile I'm thinking he might just be what she needs.

Now both of them are kind of keeping secrets from each other. Which at first seems like not such a big deal, it's more like topics they don't want to talk about. Until it becomes apparent that what they are not telling each other and their lack of communication might do it all in.

I did not expect the content of Hunter's secret. It really took my by surprise and made me look at the rest of the book quite differently. How that affected everything, the choices that he made and the things that he does. It puts it all in a different perspective. That whole scene, plus right before and after made me nearly cry. (I have a friend with the same secret, so I could relate very well.)

Overall Hunter is what really did it for me in this book. That boy is so sweet, patient and a fighter on all levels. He deserves everything he wants, even if that is Lorrie. The book had a very realistic feel about it, from the day to day life to all the drama. Some things might seem farfetched, but they are still possible. I liked Lorrie, definitely in the beginning, the girl has a witty mind. Towards the end I didn't like her so much anymore. Which if you will read this book, you will completely understand.

I kind of hate that there is going to be a second book, cliffhangers aren't really my favourite as I lack a lot of patience. Still Wrecked is a must read and I fully recommend it.
