Review & Giveaway: Without You by Julie Prestsater

When two people connect, they can make beautiful music together. But what happens when music is the thing that tears them apart?

Evan James had it all. Drop-dead sexy, brilliantly talented musician, a skyrocketing career and his high school sweetheart by his side. When he’s offered a golden opportunity to go on tour, he never imagined she wouldn’t go with him. Without her, he found his dream meant nothing. Three years later, bereft and alone, Evan stops at an open mic night and spots someone sitting in the audience, the beautiful face of a woman he’d never forget...Maddy, his one true love.

Madison Grey had only ever loved one man. When Evan broke her heart she had no choice but to move on with her life, start a career of her own, and she even finds a new love. Still, thoughts of Evan were never put to rest. And on one fateful night, she unexpectedly hears him pour his heart out into a new song. A song about broken hearts, lost love, and second chances. A song about her.

With the help of their scheming friends, Maddy and Evan are thrown into each other’s lives once more. While learning to love and trust again, there is only one thing left on both of their minds... Is life better with or without you?

The story starts three years after Madison and James broke up. James hasn't been the same since and lost his passion for music a bit. More like if he has Maddy by his side, everything feels so much better. So coming back home to figure things out, he ends up at this bar with an open mic night. He plays this song he's written for Maddy, without knowing she is in the audience. It is all a coincidence though, nothing planned. In that songs he sings about all the things he wished he'd done differently and all the things he wished they could do. And cue drama.

It is very clear to everyone around them that these two still very much love each other, even though Maddy currently has a boyfriend. James is back and finally ready to fight for his girl. Through lucky circumstances or rather friends scheming, they are thrown together and start spending a lot of time together. I have to say this went really smoothly. Maddy's boyfriend was no problem, that worked itself out pretty well and they realise that the connection between them is pretty undeniable. It all seems fated.

Overall you could guess where the story was going, but this time I didn't mind it. There was an air of whimsical and sweetness around it, that made me smile throughout the entire story. I am usually not so much a fan of second chance romances, because I'm impatient and want them just to kiss and make up already. In this case I could let it go though, I liked what the author had planned for them. Let's not forget the fact that James is simply dreamy (I kept picturing Matt Bomer in my mind)! That man has a way with words and could make any girl swoon.

Definitely a book for you if you're looking for a sweet, heartwarming romance.
