Review: The Darkest Touch (Lords of the Underworld #11) by Gena Showalter

Fierce immortal warrior. Host to the demon of Disease. Torin’s every touch causes sickness and death—and a worldwide plague. Carnal pleasure is utterly forbidden, and though he has always overcome temptation with an iron will, his control is about to shatter.

She is Keeley Cael. The Red Queen. When the powerful beauty with shocking vulnerabilities escapes from a centuries-long imprisonment, the desire that simmers between her and Torin is scorching. His touch could mean the end for her, but resisting her is the hardest battle he’s ever fought—and the only battle he fears he can’t win.

Torin's story is one I've been looking forward to for a very long time. I always wondered how this keeper of disease would ever find his happy ending. While he's part of the original LOTU, to me he always stood apart and you can take that quite literally. While the others appreciate his skills, they always keep at a safe distance. Almost 3000 years without a single touch has left him starved for a connection.

Now stuck in another realm as his friends, torin meets Keeley a.k.a. The Red Queen. She's something different alright. Her mood swings are extreme and her appeal undeniable. Torin doesn't know what overcomes him, but he's drawn to her. With Keeley being one of the most powerful creatures that ever existed, for the first time he really hopes there's a chance for more. Her fearlessness makes it even more difficult to keep her at a safe distance.

Torin is constantly torn between his attraction for her, the need to touch her and the fear of the consequences of that one touch. He likes her way too much to watch her die or to become a carrier of disease and therefore having to put her through the same isolation as him.

Like Keeley cares. The girl is very confident in her powers, but when it comes to matter of the hearts she struggles. It doesn't help of course that Torin keeps changing his mind about being with her. Anyone one would go bonkers.

That constant yes-no, did get tiresome at times, making me want to smack some sense into that man. Keeley was certainly not someone I was expecting, but it appears Torin prefers his woman to be a bit more volatile. These two are perfect for each other. This story is more than I ever imagined for Torin. I really liked how Gena Showalter handled to whole disease and no touching part. An excellent job, original characters and plot. Another Gena Showalter classic.
