Tour Review & Giveaway: Wish for You (Boys of the South #4) by Marquita Valentine

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
There's only one place in the world Lacey Evans feels normal--the roller derby track. When she laces up her skates and fastens her helmet, she'd powerful and in charge. She knows exactly what to do and say. The rules are clear and penalties are given for those who don't follow them. But in the real world, she's far from powerful and in charge. She never knows exactly what to do or say. For years, she counted on one person to be exactly who he said he was--her best friend, Wyatt Tanaka. Only she changed the rules on him, without any warning, and now she's the one being punished.

Marine Veteran, Wyatt Tanaka, came home to a hero's welcome. Only he's hiding a secret that makes him anything but a hero and could potentially destroy his life. He's doing the best he can, trying to cope with the guilt, and the pain of the girl he loves pushing him away by doing all the things he'd sworn not to. With Lacey's new rules, he has nothing and no one to hold onto. Nothing to keep him from feeling dead. Instead, he allows nameless women, bars, drugs, and drinking consume him.

Then one night, he goes too far, gets in too deep, and when the truth comes out…will Lacey push him away or help save him?

Review:
I was looking forward to reading Lacey and Wyatt's story ever since they were introduced in Live For You. Even then the sparks between these two was impossible to deny. Unfortunately after finishing this book I felt a bit disappointed, I just expected more. The story was actually really good, but the execution wasn't up par with the rest of the series.

Ever since Wyatt came back from the war he hasn't been quite the same (which is very understandable) and Lacey denying their relationship isn't helping either. To drown out his sorrows, he finds solace in booze, drugs and women. He is able to hide it really well from all those who care about him, he isn't even being honest about it with his therapist. The only thing he knows he wants is Lacey, but she changed the rules and Wyatt isn't sure he can accept them. Knowing that Lacey is the only good thing in his life, makes it hard to stay just friends, certainly when she moves in with him.

Lacey is a strong girl, even if she suffers from extreme anxiety attacks and is borderline OCD. Rules are what makes her able to cope with life and when things change around her, she doesn't respond well. She has never been diagnosed or even talked to a therapist, but Wyatt has always been the one to help her stay calm.

Now these two have pretty much loved each other since the beginning. So you know something was bound to happen. Even with Lacey pushing him away you expect that. She thinks she is not good enough for Wyatt. That he deserves someone with the same roots, a good education, big goals in her life and someone who doesn't suffer from panic attacks. Meanwhile Wyatt doesn't know what he did wrong for Lacey to push him away, she also doesn't explain it to him. All he knows is that he can not just be friends with the girl he's in love with.

Then some secrets are revealed. Lots of drama going on, still it all happens really fast and is gets glanced over really quickly. Some parts could have used some more details. Also there was a lot of jumping from one moment to the next without a smooth transition. This is mostly towards the ending and because of that it all felt a bit off kilter.

The topics approached in Wish For You aren't the easiest (PTSD, anxiety...) but Marquita Valentine did a really good job on them, though once again she could have gone a bit more in detail for my liking. Wish For You is a good book, but it is not great. It even could have been amazing, there were just too many things that were not quite right. I really liked the other books in the series, this one felt a bit lacking compared to the others.

Cover Reveal: Wish For You by Marquita Valentine

A Boys of the South Novel
Releasing January 20, 2014
New Adult Contemporary
Cover designed by Okay Creations

There’s only one place in the world where I feel normal—the roller derby track. When I put on my skates and fasten my helmet, I’m powerful and in charge. I know exactly what to do and what to say. The rules are clear and everyone does exactly what they’re supposed to, penalties are enforced for those who don’t. But in the real world, I’m far from powerful and in charge. I never know exactly what to do and say.

For years, I counted on one person to be exactly who he said he was—my best friend -Wyatt Tanaka.

Only he's changed. Being a Marine and serving in a war has made him different. Now I want to help him, but I also want to kiss him. And that’s not something best friends do. Neither of us, it seems, is content being just friends anymore.

If we cross that line, change the rules of our relationship, it could be wonderful and everything I've ever wanted. But it might also mean I'll lose the one person I've come to rely on and I don't think my heart can take it.

Review: Live for You (Boys of the South #1) by Marquita Valentine

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
On the surface, twenty-two year old Cole Morgan is exactly what any girl would be proud to take home to meet her parents: He’s charming, intensely handsome and goal-oriented...Only he has some secrets of his own, which include provoking bar fights and a former drug-addict of a mother slowly wasting away in a medical facility.

At barely twenty, Violet Lynn is Country Music's hottest star, until one night of partying gets out of control. Violet ends up in jail and on TMZ. Suddenly, she’s the girl least likely to be invited anywhere. Sick of the drama and keeping secrets, she runs away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi to her grandmother’s home in Forrestville, North Carolina.

A chance meeting knocks Cole off his feet, but he doesn’t recognize Violet for who she is. In fact no one does and Violet plans to keep it that way.

Circumstances, however annoying, keep throwing Violet and Cole together. Unable to stop themselves they give into the inevitable.

But when Nashville is ready to forgive and forget, Violet is forced to choose between Cole and claiming her spot as the new and improved Princess of Country Music.

Will Violet and Cole have the courage to live for their dreams...Or their hearts?

Review
I always love it when cliché stories turn out to be so much more. Violet is shunned by the entire A-list world and runs to her grandmother to recuperate. Spending time in a small southern city where nobody knows who she is, is really what she needs right now.

What she didn't expect finding there was Cole, the towns bad-boy and sweetheart all roled in to one fine package. Cole doesn't have the time or energy for the extra drama Violet might bring, but still he has to have her.

The electricity between these two is obviously smoking hot, but they each have so many issues and extra problems going on that might keep them apart. Choices will have to be made and secrets are revealed, it will either drive them apart or together.

The biggest issue I had with this story was the lack of certain details and depth, which kind of go hand in hand. I really like the characters, Cole is simply amazing and Violet is really strong. Still after I finished the story I still had a lot of unanswered questions, which I believe are essential for the story. Violet who has been in an accident and you don't get to know what really happened. Cole's whole family situation, how it became that way could have used more details.

The ending is pretty closed, but I know there is coming a second book in the series. What I don't know is whom's story it is going to be. There is definitely room to continue Violet and Cole's tale, but there were plenty of other characters introduced, each willing to tell their story.

Anyway, overall it was a good and fun read, but I'm still a bit left with the feeling it could have been more.
