Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: Until the End (Sea Breeze #9) by Abbi Glines

The backstory that fans have been clamoring for—how Rock and Trisha fell in love—is the final installment in the Sea Breeze series from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines. And don’t miss the sizzling Epilogue, where Abbi wraps up all the Sea Breeze couples’ stories!

Trisha Corbin always knew how to hide a bruise. With her momma’s boyfriends unable to keep their hands off of her, she had no choice. And as long as it meant the guys wouldn’t go near her little brother, Krit, it was worth it. But her days of dreaming that Prince Charming would ever come rescue her are far, far in the past.

Rock Taylor always had a plan. Through football, he would rise above the life he was born into. A full ride to play for a major college team was within his reach—assuming he didn’t let anything get in his way. But scoring a date with the hottest girl in Sea Breeze was proving harder than expected. Trisha Corbin was every man’s walking fantasy, and she wouldn’t even glance his way.

When Rock finally does get Trisha in his truck, it isn’t for a date. It’s because he picks her up on the side of the road, beaten and bruised and walking to the local hospital. Before Rock knows it, football is no longer his life. Trisha Corbin is. And he’ll do anything to save her. And keep her.

In addition to Rock and Trisha’s love story, this special novel contains the wrap-up stories of all your favorite Sea Breeze couples: Sadie and Jax, Marcus and Low, Cage and Eva, Preston and Amanda, Jess and Jason, Krit and Blythe, and Dewayne and Sienna.

Trisha, The Past

Krit walked back into the room a few minutes later with a pillow, his comforter, and blanket. “He said he didn’t need anything. He was just going to sleep on his beach towel but I ignored him. He’s getting changed in the bathroom.”

He was trying to make it easy on Rock so he would stay. But Rock couldn’t stay. He was a kid too, with a football career in his future. He didn’t have time to save us. “He can’t stay forever, you know. He has a life and a future. We will be okay when he walks away. We have each other,” I reminded him.

Krit didn’t respond. He kept making Rock a bed on the floor beside my bed.

“You know that, right?” I asked again needing Krit to acknowledge that this wasn’t something he should get used to.

When Krit dropped his pillow on the makeshift bed he turned his gaze to me. “No, Trisha I don’t know that. I think… I think you may be more important to him than football.” Then he walked out over and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “You’re special. The kind of girl a guy does crazy shit for.”

I started to say something but Krit left my room before I could think of what to say.

Moments later Rock walked back in wearing a pair of what looked like board shorts and a Sea Breeze Football tee shirt. His gaze landed on the spot Krit had made for him on the floor and a small grin tugged on his lips. Then he turned his attention to me. “I think he likes me,” he quipped.

I didn’t smile. Not because my lip was hurt but because Rock didn’t understand the truth to his comment. I had to protect Krit. Letting him trust in Rock was a bad idea.

“He thinks you’re going to save us. I don’t need you to encourage that in him. He’s been let down too many times. I won’t let you do that to him too.”

Rock stared at me a moment then he walked over to the side of the bed. His finger traced the side of my head gently. “You’re worried about me letting him down. What about you?”

What about me? I was sure it would break my heart when Rock walked away from this. But I was tough. I could deal with it. My brother had emotional issues that I didn’t have. He lost it and went crazy when things were too much for him.

“I know you’ll leave. I don’t have any grand illusions. In real life there are no heroes.”

Rock didn’t reply for a moment. He continued to trace the side of my head and rub his thumb and forefinger over my ear in a caress that felt soothing. “One day, Trisha Corbin, you will call me your hero. And that day will be the most important moment in my life.”

The end of the Sea Breeze series is bitter sweet. I mean, Abbi Glines could have kept writing stories about this bunch, giving every minor character their own story, but she knows that's not the way to go. So instead we get one last story, which is actually the first one. Trish and Rock were already in a relationship when this series started and fans always wondered how they had ended up together. From Krit we know that his and Trish's upbringing was bad, though seeing it now, it's even worse than I'd imagined.

While Trish's past isn't a happy one, when Rock entered her life that changed. At first she wanted nothing to do with him.She had bigger problems on her mind than boys and jealous girls. Rock doesn't know what to do with that fact. Girls always love and want him and Trish's rejection has him stunned. Though he can not get her out of his head. When he finds out why she tries to keep her distance, he becomes even more determined.

So Rock in the end might have been Trish's hero, you have to remember that it wasn't all about saving her. Trish has always been able to take care of herself and protect her little brother. She's scared that any outside interference would only hurt her and Krit even more. Rock really hasn't had an easy time convincing her of his feelings and well since he's an amazing guy of course he would want to help the love of his life. I was surprised how much Rock gave up in the end for a future with Trish, but I believe his dreams simply changed over time and his priorities shifted.

It does feel like the fans asked for this book and Abbi Glines delivered, and then some. Reading Trish and Rock's story was nice, though it didn't have my heart beating in overdrive. Still because it's the ending and I love the characters so much, it's all so bittersweet.

Every couple from the past eight books got their own very short story. I loved seeing everyone again, though I wasn't expecting some of the heavy drama Abbi Glines can put a couple through in a few chapters. Still everything wrapped up very nicely. Even things were looking very positive for Green, which I know is something fans have been asking for. It's mostly that last chapter and more specifically those last two words, that has the internet and fans going crazy. Honestly, you can not blame them and I was also left stunned and giddy. Without spoilers, it's also something the fans have been asking, praying and wishing for. I believe miss Abbi Glines has even more up her sleeve.

Review: Hold on Tight (Sea Breeze #8) by Abbi Glines

Six years ago, Dewayne Falco's life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone.

What he didn't expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne's younger brother Dustin. However, when a miniature version of Dustin opens the door to greet him, Dewayne realizes he might not have lost everything after all.

Sienna Roy loved Dustin Falco most of her life. He was the boy next door, the high school basketball star and her best friend. But when his life was cut short, she realized he left a part of himself behind.

Now, she's back in Sea Breeze, thankful to have a home for her and Dustin's son, but not sure if she can ever forgive the people across the street who abandoned her when she needed them the most — The Falcos.

Betrayal, lies, and forbidden attraction might end Dewayne and Sienna's story before it's even begun.

I'm a big Abbi Glines fan and her books are such pleasure to read. At first I was a bit surprised that Dewayne was getting his own story. He appeared in the previous books, but always very much on the background, so I had no idea what to expect from him. I knew, like most of the guys in this series, that he very much liked women and preferable a couple of different ones each week. Also that he gave off this scary vibe towards people who don't know him. Other than that, no idea what made this guy tick, where he's from and what his history is.

With this book we do get to know him better and we definitely learn more about his past, but I can not quite put my finger on it, something was missing. All things from the past were centered around two people, his brother and Sienna Roy. I really would have liked to have gone deeper on a personal level as to what made Dewayne him. There is no real explanation to why he was the trouble child and his brother the golden boy for example. I feel we just got to see this one side of Dewayne, when he's surrounded by the people he loves and cares about and I don't know, I just wanted more from him.

Sienna was a more rounded character, though it seems most her life has been about the Falco boys. They grew up together, but because she was Dustin's age and Dewayne was older, it seemed everyone expected them to be together. Though it was clear even back then, it wasn't quite right. What I liked most about her, was the way she dealt with Micah. She was seventeen when she had him and she's an amazing mom. This gives her a silent admirable strength.

Now Sienna and Dewayne have been pretty much in love with each other since they were teens and now being back into the same town, denying it seems to be impossible. Dewayne tries to keep his distance, but it seems that the years apart only made his feelings and attraction grow. There are some hurdles along the way, mostly ones they've put there themselves, but it was fun to read.

I think Micah was actually my favourite character. That little boy stole my heart. He was simply adorable and I loved that he kept on talking and talking. Meaning awkward moments for the adults and a smile on my face.

Hold On Tight was okay read, as in it was fun to read and Dewayne certainly has a dirty mouth, but it isn't Abbi Glines' best work. If you're a fan, you will like this. I would not recommend this to be the first book you read of hers. Normally authors get better during time and I already felt it a bit with Bad For You, but I'm missing some depth in these stories that were there in the first ones and in the Rosemary Beach series. So I know she can do it and can do it well, I'm just wondering where it went.

“It has been a long time. Why are you here?” I replied, not taking my eyes off Dewayne. He was still larger than life. More so than when I was a teenager. He had a few more piercings now and a couple more tattoos. His shoulders were even wider, and the thick, corded muscles in his arms were intimidating. The man was like a brick wall.

Yet those eyelashes of his were still too thick for a male, and even though he’d pierced his lip, it didn’t take away from the plumpness that women paid good money to mimic. The worn jeans that looked like they needed a good washing hugged him in a way I wanted to ignore. I had to ignore. This man was off-limits to me.

He wasn’t just the nice guy who had been my friend when I was younger. He was also a man who had abandoned me when I’d needed someone the most. Even if he was delicious and what female fantasies were made of, I would never forgive him. Dustin had adored him, yet Dustin’s son didn’t even know him.

He cocked an eyebrow at me, as if he was surprised by my reaction to him. “Came over to see who the new neighbors were. Beat-to-shit car parked out front concerned me. Neighborhood’s not what it used to be.”

Once I wouldn’t have been able to look past his perfectly chiseled face and full lips to get angry with him. That wasn’t the case any longer. My hands fisted at my sides, and I wanted nothing more than to punch him in the nose. I owned that car. I had worked hard to buy that car.

“I’ll keep that in mind. I can assure you we’re not going to cause any problems,” I replied, walking over to the door and putting my hand on it to let him know I was done with this visit and wanted him to leave.

Dewayne frowned, and his dark eyes, which in my dreams had looked at me like he had today when I’d walked into the room, were now narrowed. Great, I’d managed to piss off the massive, monster-size man who could knock me down with one hard puff. “Where did that sweet girl I used to know go? You lose her somewhere?” Dewayne’s voice was even, but the low, menacing sound to it bothered me.

What did he expect me to do? Bat my eyelashes at him and swoon like I had when I was a kid? “She learned to toughen up and trust no one.” I gripped the door, fighting the urge to slam it in his face. Because I was pretty sure he could rip it off its hinges if provoked. “Thanks for stopping by. Now that you know we aren’t about to dirty up the neighborhood with our presence, you can go on back to your parents’ place. We’re fine here.” I started closing the door. Dewayne stepped back. To my surprise, he turned around, then started walking away.

Saturday Series: Bad for You (Sea Breeze #7) by Abbi Glines

Addiction was something Krit Corbin accepted as part of his nature a long time ago. He decided to embrace it and flip his finger at the rules. Women had always been the number one thing on his list of addictions. He couldn’t get enough. Being the lead singer in a rock band had only made access to his favorite addiction that much easier.

Being alone was the only thing Blythe Denton understood. The small town minister’s family that raised her hadn’t accepted her as their own. The minister’s wife had always made sure Blythe understood just how unworthy she was of love. When Blythe is sent away to college and given a chance to finally be free of living as an unwanted burden, she looks forward to having peace in her life. Being alone isn’t something that bothers her. She escapes reality in the stories she writes.

However, the ridiculously sexy tattooed guy who keeps throwing parties in the apartment above hers is driving her crazy. For starters, he doesn’t treat her like she would expect a guy with a different woman always hanging on his arm to treat someone as uninteresting as her. She looks nothing like the gorgeous women she sees parading in and out of his apartment, but for some strange reason he keeps showing up at her door.

During a party at his apartment, Krit’s new neighbor comes to the door with her long brown hair pulled up in a messy knot and a pair of glasses perched on her cute little nose. She wants him to turn down the music, but he convinces her to stay.

Krit Corbin may have just found his biggest addiction yet. And Blythe Denton realizes too late that she’s finally been claimed.

This is not the last book in the series, but since the next ones aren't published yet, this review will be the last for my Saturday Series of Sea Breeze. The next series I'll be reviewing is the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. Honestly I've already started reading them and they are difficult to put down, so addicting!

I think I finally might need to admit that I have a soft spot for (fictional) rockstars/musicians. We saw some pieces of Krit in the previous books, giving me the impression of him being a male slut, but like beyond the usual. I wasn't wrong about that and no matter what his reasons were, it isn't what you would call normal behaviour. We somehow accept it because of his confident attitude and his rockstar life. Still in Misbehaving we could already see that there is more to Krit. When he was with Jesse we got a glimpse of his intensity and obsessive behaviour.

This time it only gets worse. When Blythe moves in downstairs, Krit like everyone else feels that pull towards her. The innocence though, simply radiates off of her, and he knows he should stay away from her. But one look, one talk, it is never enough and he keeps coming back to her. Just as friends though, no way is he going to mess this up. Krit is so afraid to break Blythe or hurt her, that he really does try to keep his distance. Which isn't easy when he got addicted from that first moment he saw her. I also like that Blythe gets to see this whole other side from him that he usually keeps hidden.

Meanwhile Blythe, for the first time in her life she is free and on her own. Growing up in a small town, hated by everyone for simply existing has made her very insecure. She has no idea the effect she has on other people. So when she meets Krit and he wants to hang out, all she is expecting is for them to be friends. She never even had a friend back home, let alone a boyfriend. Spending so much time with this one though, has her secretly hoping for more than friends. She knows he's not a saint, but she also sees that he's not the devil some people try to make out of him. Blythe sees the real Krit, because he lets her.

Krit is amazing, but Blythe is one of the realest characters I've come across in Abbi's books. The combination of vulnerability, innocence and sometimes fierceness is simply brilliant. Blythe often really has no clue and you can not help but feel that need to protect her from the bad world. No wonder Krit is so drawn to her. While he craves the attention, all she wants is to disappear, to go unnoticed. She is pretty much an enigma to him, making him wanting to figure her all out. I think Blythe might even be my favourite heroin of this series.

As I said, I might have a weak spot for musicians. While I do not agree with Krit and some of his lifestyle choices, I can understand his addictive and obsessive character. On the one hand Blythe is a novelty for him, but one he can not have enough of. Of course he is attracted to her, still he does not immediately give in to that need and actually gets to know her. I don't think he has ever really done that. Now being addicted to someone isn't really the healthiest and definitely results in some erratic behaviour, but I do believe that as long as he has Blythe these things will improve over time or as long as he focuses on her, his other obsessions might become better.

Krit and Blythe are both very different on pretty much all aspects, and I love the way they mostly bring out the best in each other. Blythe can make Krit relax and have him open up. While he helps her be confident and see that she is worthy of everything good. Trish, Krit's sister, needs an honourable mention in this one. That girl is awesome and the best big sister anyone can wish for.

Like usual the overall plot is not the most original, but what you need to remember about Abbi's books is that they are character driven. That is also what I like so much about her stories. Each and every time she writes characters you can easily relate to and connect with. They are strong, imperfect characters who've had the chance to find that one special person and the road towards that love certainly wasn't easy.

Bad For You was an amazing read, the perfect balance of sweet, sexy and intense. Like always Abbi's books leave me with that silly smile on my face. No matter if you're a die hard fan or this is the first novel you read, you will fall in love with these characters.
