Playboy Cage owns the apartment, and he hosts a revolving door of people, in and out, at all times. Most of them are long-legged hot girls who are never there more than a night or two. When Cage’s new roommate, Marcus, enters the picture, he’s just looking to nurse a broken heart. But there’s one particular semi-frequent regular who catches his eye.
Willow—“Low”—is the one Cage wants to marry. But the two of them are night and day, and Marcus can’t see how Low puts up with all of Cage’s womanizing. What she really needs is a real man....like good-looking and sensible Marcus. But that’s going to get real complicated and real messy—real fast.
Review
We met Marcus in Breathe as the sweet determined guy, who had a huge crush on Sadie. I felt really bad for him then, but it just wasn't meant to be and I'm so glad for it actually.
Marcus has returned home to support his mom and sister, now that they found out his dad has been sleeping with his much younger secretary. He needed a place fast and Cage, a buddy from Preston had an extra room available. Usually Marcus is alone in the apartment because well let's just say Cage has a busy social life.
There is just this one person who catches his eye. The moment Marcus opens the door and he sees Low standing there he is pretty much sold. One tiny bump on the road though, Cage is convinced he will marry her one day, though Low does not feel the same way. They just grew up together and they have only had each other to rely one, the one constant in their lives. So yeah Cage is very protective over her.
I honestly can not blame the guy. Low lost her mother a couple of years ago and since then her sister has been raising her. The moment Low turned eighteen though, her sister pretty much kicked her out, which is partly why she relies on Cage so much. Not that the guy thinks she' a hindrance or anything like, rather the opposite, he adores her.
Since Low spends so much time at the apartment, she and Marcus get to know each other better. To Marcus it is clear she deserves someone better than Cage. He had to fight for a girl once and lost, this time he won't quit until he has her.
I already loved Marcus from the first book and he only gets better. On the one hand he is a pretty relaxed guy, when he lets himself, but there is also this intense side. One of the things that really spoke to me is the loyalty he has for his family and friends, which now also includes Low. This time he is even more determined to get the girl. Which doesn't mean he does not make any mistakes, but those are caught-in-the-moment/should-not-have-said-that mistakes. This makes it easier to forgive him.
Low is such a sweetie and has the biggest heart. She takes care of her little niece so often, always makes sure Cage has clean clothes, it is mostly all these little things she does, which shows how much she cares for people. All her life people have been leaving her, so she really needs and deserves that stability of someone loving her forever.
The secondary characters are as always very well developed, making you wonder who is going to get their story next. I honestly do not care in which order, as long as each and every one of them gets to be happy. Also all these little hints that you know get, after rereading, I just love!
Abbi Glines writes perfectly loveable stories, with characters you can not help but adore. Her writing is so fluent I just fly through her books and also always make me a bit sad to see them ending so quickly. Luckily there are five more books to read from this series!
