Review, Excerpt & Giveaway: Something Sweeter (Sweet, Texas #3) by Candis Terry

The men in Texas are hard to resist . . .

Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole "'til death do us part" thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn't expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her "true love doesn't exist" theory all to hell.

And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet's favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she's a handful of trouble he can't deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I have to start with that cover. It is simply gorgeous, not some stock photo used over and over again, but a true wedding picture and one of a kind. The colors, the font, the happiness of the bride, it's all perfect and honestly what drew me in at first. I really do love me a good cover.

Something Sweeter is the third book in the Sweet Texas series and I haven't read the other books yet. It's not necessary to read those others first, they can easily be read as a standalone. Now I will be reading those because I completely fell in love with the Wilder family, though I think Jesse and Allison will be my favourite couple.

I always love strong and real characters. It was so easy to connect and relate to these two. Allison's vision of marriage and happily ever after is a bit skewed. She's had the worst example, her parents' marriage, and the best example, her sister's marriage. Though she does believe in finding that one and she wouldn't mind meeting hers, Allison just doesn't believe she is meant for it. The chances of finding that love and happiness is so small, she doesn't believe in the odds. Jesse Wilder wants to convince her otherwise.

Jesse is a man who seems to be always on a mission. When his father and brother died, Jesse promised himself he would make sure the people around them would find their happiness. That's where his focus is. If there is any time left, he would also like that, but first the others. So he might have a bit of a reputation, still he truly believes in love and that surprises Allison. When it seems she is stuck longer in Sweet, she allows him to alter her views on happily ever after.

The chemistry between these two from the moment they lock eyes on each other is phenomenal. They definitely don't always agree with each other, which makes it so much more fun to read for us. The constant bantering, teasing and sometimes hilarious situations they get stuck in are very entertaining.

There is also some personal growth they go through. Jesse needs to learn that he also deserves happiness and that he doesn't have to necessarily wait for it. While Allison needs to believe that love and happily ever after is possible.

The Wilder family plays a big part in the story. This family makes you feel right at home and wishing you could go to their famous BBQ. I really love that Southern charm and hospitality, it all adds warmth to a story and creating a world you immediately want to be part of.

Something Sweeter was an amazing book and I really enjoyed it. It has a strong heroine, sexy hero, big family, lots of humor and some very sweet moments. I think it's perfect read to help you relax and it will leave you very happy.

“Obviously, in a town this size, you’ve realized I’m not from around here.” Her head tilted as she studied him once more. “I’m looking for a place to have breakfast in the morning.”

“Since I’m guessing you’re not going to follow up with ‘your place or mine,’ it’s just your luck I’m born and raised in this area.”

As she took a quick sip of beer, he leaned an elbow on the bar and did a visual slow ride down her body just to keep things even. “I’ve got everything you need.”

Her lips parted, and her tongue darted out to swipe away a drop of ale. “I’ll bet you do.”

The air between them shifted into the hot-and-heavy zone before he realized he was getting mixed signals. Her words were flirty. Her long hot gazes definitely showed interest. But something deep in those smoky eyes said she wasn’t a hundred percent on board. And since he’d been brought up to always wait for an invitation, he wasn’t quite sure which way to rock this … encounter.

“Nothing finer,” he said.

She laughed. “And you’re confident, too.”

He sipped his beer and watched her over the lip of the bottle. When he set the bottle down, he clarified, “Bud’s Nothing Finer Diner. Best place in Sweet for breakfast. They serve up a killer fresh strawberry banana French toast with whipped cream that’ll make you want to lick the plate clean.”

“Sounds like you’ve enjoyed that once or twice.”

“Consider me an expert licker.”

She grinned. “Are we talking about breakfast?”

“I don’t know.” He grinned back. “Are we?”
