Excerpt & Giveaway: Right Kind of Wrong (Finding Fate #3) by Chelsea Fine

Sometimes wrong can feel oh so right . . .

Jenna Lacombe needs complete control, whether it’s in the streets . . . or between the sheets. So when she sets out on a solo road trip to visit her family in New Orleans, she’s beyond annoyed that the infuriatingly sexy Jack Oliver wants to hitch a ride with her. Ever since they shared a wild night together last year, he’s been trying to strip away her defenses one by one. He claims he’s just coming along to keep her safe-but what’s not safe for her is prolonged exposure to the tattooed hottie.

Jack can’t get Jenna out from under his skin. She makes him feel alive again after his old life nearly destroyed him-and losing her is not an option. Now Jack’s troubles are catching up to him, and he’s forced to return to his hometown in Louisiana. But when his secrets put them both in harm’s way, Jenna will have to figure out how far she’s willing to let love in . . . and how much she already has.

Opening my car door, I slide into the driver’s seat, turn to put the key in the ignition and—

“Ahh!” Jumping back, I thwack my open palm against the gigantic body of pure muscle seated in the passenger seat. “Dammit, Jack! You scared me!”

“Good morning.” He grins.

“What are you doing in my car?” I snap, throwing him some serious stink eye.

“I’m going with you to Louisiana.” He nods to a large duffle bag in the backseat.

I blink. “Uh, no you’re not.”

“Uh, yes I am.”

“Like hell.”

He crinkles his brow. “I’ve never understood that phrase. But okay. I’ll go with you ‘like hell,’ whatever that means.”

“Get out of my car.” I point to the door.

“Oh, Jenna.” He clucks his tongue. “This will be good for both of us. Listen.” He casually leans against the passenger window and pierces me with his gray eyes. “For reasons beyond my control, I need to go back home. And for reasons beyond your control, so do you. And since our ‘homes’ are right next door to one another, I figured we’d carpool to Louisiana and you can just drop me off at Little Vail on your way to New Orleans.”

He gives me that little-boy smile of his and it’s all I can do not to lean forward and soak it in. I hate me.

“I don’t see how that’s good for me,” I say. “At all.”

He shrugs. “You get some company on the road.”

I nod with a clenched jaw. “And you get a free ride.”

His smile grows and I instantly realize that was the wrong thing to say.

“Precisely,” he says.

I can’t afford to spend any excessive time with Jack. Not just because we fight, but because of what happened last year. It was one crazy night when we were both drunk, and we never spoke of it after the fact, but our “friendship” has been tense ever since.

“Well, I don’t need any company,” I say, shaking my head.

“Sure you do,” he says easily. “Everyone needs company.”

“Not me. So get out.”

He grins. “No.”

God I hate him. But not really.

God I hate that I don’t hate him.

I jut my chin and stare him over. “Fine. If you won’t remove yourself…” Exiting the car, I stomp around the hood to his door, yank it open, and wrap my hands around his bicep. Then I start pulling.

He doesn’t budge. Like, he literally doesn’t move an inch as I tug at his oversized arm and grunt like I’m trying to move a massive piece of hardwood furniture and not a human being.

His eyes dance as he watches my struggle. “What’s your plan here, Jenna? Haul me out of the car and leave me in the street?”

“Sounds good to me.”

“Well, that doesn’t sound friendly at all,” he says, flicking the lever to recline to seat a bit so he looks even more relaxed than before.

“I wasn’t trying to be friendly,” I grit out.

“Clearly.”

I try pulling him out again, to no avail. He’s giant and solid, and honestly, just touching him is turning me on.

I drop my hands and glower at him. “You can’t just tell me that you’re coming along on my road trip.”

He cocks his head. “Would you feel better if I asked?”

“Not especially.”

“Jenna.” He leans forward and his gaze bores through me, down into the deepest parts of my being. “Will you please let me join you on your trip to Louisiana?”

For a moment, I’m lost in his eyes, debating with myself. I don’t trust myself around Jack. Not at all. But I did spend half the night tossing in my sleep with nightmares about traveling alone so maybe having Jack tag along might not be so bad after all. Maybe.

Pulling back, I straighten my shoulders and relent, like usual when it comes to Jack.

“Fine,” I huff out as I stomp back to my side of the car in climb in. “But no talking,” I say, hoping I haven’t just made a huge mistake.

He grins and I turn away.

Surely I can manage to keep my panties on around Jack for a few days…right?

So when her late father-a man she barely knew-leaves her an inheritance, she finally breathes a sigh of relief . . . until she learns the inheritance comes with strings. Struggling to make amends for his family's mistakes, Daren has a life more Oliver Twist than Richie Rich these days. Still, she's just as beautiful as she is stubborn, and the more time he spends with Kayla, the less it feels right being without her. Soon Daren and Kayla begin to wonder if maybe the best gift Kayla's dad could have left them . . . was each other.

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*

We first met Daren and Kayla in Best Kind Of Broken, though it was more of a glimpse of their current situation. So it's not necessary to read the previous book, before starting Best Kind Of Broken. It did catch my interest and made me wonder what in the world was going on.

Kayla is returning to Copper Springs for the funeral of her father. The last time she spoke with him was over five years ago, so there is a lot of anger and resentment towards him. She didn't even know he was sick, but here she is, ready for some closure.

Daren is also at the funeral. It had been months since he talked to Old Man Turner, so his dead came as quite a surprise. He considered this man nearly like a father, so it's pretty hard to deal with.

We kind of have a pride and prejudice thing going on between these two. Daren is convinced that Kayla is a heartless spoiled princess. While she thinks Daren is a very rich player. Though both couldn't be more wrong. Well the player part is right, the rest definitely not.

These misconceptions make for loathing at first sight and is a perfect base for this little adventure. Kayla's dad apparently left them a message in his will. They are to receive money (no amount is mentioned), but they have to find this money by being cuffed together. Since both of them are out of options and beyond broke, they agree with the conditions. So their adventure begins and it's an interesting one. It's of course over the top, but also very hilarious and intense, since it takes a bit longer than they thought.

Being cuffed together forces Kayla and Darren to communicate, so slowly it becomes clear that they were wrong about each other. This also results in them getting closer, not just physically. Though there is that part as well and it's steaming. The banter and tension between them is fabulous and very entertaining to read. They start opening up to each other and my heart broke for what they had been going through. Really nothing is what it seems and you just hope that these two troubled people can come together.

The journey definitely wasn't easy and I loved seeing these two characters grow throughout the story. Told from both their POV it was very interesting to get to know Kayla and Daren, where they were from and how that past shaped them. Then seeing the development they went through, only made me love them even more. I really liked the book. Chelsea Fine told us a wonderful story, with some necessary humor to keep it from becoming too dark.

Still handcuffed together, we carefully maneuver our linked wrists and open the old train door. Inside, the boxcar is completely empty except for a single, folded piece of paper.

I scowl. Will this scavenger hunt for money ever end?

“What do you suppose it is?” Daren nods at the piece of paper in the back of the train car.

“A check for a million dollars?” I say hopefully.

The only way to reach the paper is to climb inside. Which won’t be easy since my chest barely reaches the bottom of the train car and we can’t climb in one at a time because, you know, we’re attached to one another.

I frown. “How do you want to do this?”

Daren scratches his jaw. “I’ll hoist you inside first then I’ll jump in. Come here.” He turns me around to face him and I step into the circle of his arms.

The summer sun burns down on us. I stare at his chest where his T-shirt pulls tight against the hard muscles of his pecs and a trickle of sweat slowly slides down the back of my neck.

The corded muscles of his neck ripple as he turns his head. “Hold on to my wrists. Then I’ll lift you up.”

He places his big hands on my waist and his thumbs slide under my shirt, grazing the bare skin of my stomach. A warm zing shoots down my belly.

I snap my eyes to him. “Did you do that on purpose?”

“Do what?” His expression is neutral but there’s a glimmer in his eye.

I eye him shrewdly as I wrap my hands around his wrists.

He glides the pads of his thumbs over my stomach again and another, more powerful, zing darts straight down my belly and between my legs as I suck in a breath.

“Cut it out,” I say.

“Cut what out?” His eyes dance with amusement.

“You know what.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” A mischievous grin spreads across his face and I can’t stop the smile that starts to play at my own lips.

“Daren...”

His eyes lock on mine and the twitching low in my belly starts up again. Then his gaze drops to my mouth and hunger lights his eyes.

I absently part my lips, my thoughts suddenly hazy.

Leaning in, he whispers, “Now do you want to kiss again?”

His words flutter over my ear like soft, warm butterflies beating their wings against my sensitive skin and a shiver runs through me.

The answer is yes. I do want to kiss him again. It felt so good to have his mouth on mine last night. To feel him up against me.

But I don’t answer.

He brushes his thumbs over the naked skin of my belly again, but this time dips them inside the waistband of my skirt and skims the lacey top of my panties.

I inhale sharply, tightening my fingers around his wrists as my nipples harden and heat builds in my core. I rub my thighs together, trying to alleviate the ache slowly building between my legs but it’s no use. I’m already a tight puddle of need.

How come this beautiful man can make me melt with just a simple touch? And how come it’s always so difficult for me to snap out of his sexy gaze?

I blink away from Daren’s pretty brown eyes and playfully whisper, “No,” before shifting back a few inches.

His eyelids, heavy with desire, open fully as he scans my face and throat with a smile. “Liar.”

I smile back, grateful he doesn’t try to convince me otherwise. I’d no doubt give in if he did. Because Daren affects me.

Every other guy on the planet is just that: a guy.

But Daren is a force. And I am a feather.

Review: Best Kind of Broken (Finding Fate #1) by Chelsea Fine

Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.

All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

REVIEW
*I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

The first 40% of the book you keep wondering what in the world happened between Pixie and Levi. You get to understand that there is a long history, but now they are acting like they are strangers. After you find out what happened, you then keep wondering what will happen now. Who will make the first move? Will they try to salvage this? Is this something that they want? And you hope they dare to open up their heart again.

Pixie and Levi are miserable apart. Everyone sees and knows it. They haven't talked in a year and now they are pretty much living and working together. The harder they try to ignore this giant elephant in the room, the more obvious it becomes and harder to deny. Pixie and Levi will need to find a way to talk again, because the situation like it is now will only destroy them even further.

Those close living quarters make it hard to avoid each other and seeing one another every day certainly brings back some old memories. Seriously the tension has been building up for years, 'till now when it finally explodes. That shower scene was beyond hot and definitely worth the wait.

Sarah a.k.a. Pixie was never wanted by her mother and still isn't. Her mom is truly awful, like stepmom evil nearly, except it's her real mom. That is why Pixie is staying with her aunt and working at the Inn. The past year though might have been the worst in her life. You can not help but feel for this girl. For me it was easy to relate, because I've been in the same situation and I know everyone deals with it his own way, sometimes forgetting you're not the only one with this pain. Pixie doesn't know how to handle what has happened.

She is broken and doesn't know to fix it all, herself and Levi. She wants to, but there is this fear of getting broken again. As a character she is pretty amazing. Even with what happened, it hasn't stopped her from living and trying. Being confronted with Levi brings back all she ever wanted. While slowly trough summer Pixie finally figures some things out that will help her heal. Now all she needs is her hero back.

At first I thought Levi was a jerk, then I quickly realised he is just acting like a jerk to protect himself from hurting Pixie more. He also does not know how to handle seeing her again, so he uses anger to keep her at a distance. Anger he can handle, hurt not. I really liked how though he tries to keep his distance from Pixie, it was still obvious how much he cared and how protective he feels about her. She is pretty much constantly on his mind and that boy would lay down his life for her. That contradiction of vulnerability and caveman behaviour made my heart beat a little faster.

The whole problem is that they both blame themselves for what has happened and then creating this distance between them because of that. I know they're only human and they can make mistakes, but that was just stupid. If they had talked to each other, a year ago, this hurt would not have been here today. That was definitely a moment that made me curse at them. They nearly threw away the last fifteen years, because they were afraid. Luckily in the end Pixie and Levi could not avoid talking to each other.

The other characters in the book were a blast. Pixie and Levi's best friends are hilarious and definitely add a humorous note to the story, keeping it from getting to dark at certain points. Everyone at the Inn, from the employees to the guests, are all full with advice for Levi and Pixie, to the point where you think these two should really talk just to get these people off their back.

Best Kind Of Broken is such a beautiful read of love, hope, forgiveness and risking your heart. Chelsea Fine has written a story that will make you turn page after page hoping for that happy ending. She makes you feel with the characters, without it being over dramatic or any unnecessary angst. Everything between Pixie and Levi feels very realistic and my heart really went out to these two. It was simply brilliant, everything worked so well together and I can not wait to read Daren's story, Perfect Kind Of Trouble.

I love to dance. I suck at dancing, but I love it.

I’m obsessed with brushing my teeth. I always have a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss in my purse. I’m weird.

Coffee and I have a relationship. I call it true love.

My sister, Cameron, is the funniest person I know. Once, she made me laugh so hard I threw up on her. True story.

I love pretty much all shows on The CW.

My first car was a white ’89 Subaru hatchback with orange towels covering the seats, glow-in-the-dark paint outlining the dashboard, and bumper stickers everywhere. I was super cool.

My grandparents text message me daily. They’re very awesome.

In high school, I had a pair of patent-leather neon orange shoes that I wore shamelessly. <–This probably contributed to my lack of popularity.

I like vampires. And werewolves. And superheroes.

But not clowns. Clowns are creepy.

I have two kids, and I totally let them color on the walls.
