Gwen Harrison:

Neil MacBain:
The retired Marine can’t deny the effect blue-blooded Gwen has on his troubled soul or his battle-hardened body. But as a client, Gwen is off-limits—until a threat from Neil’s past returns…and Gwen is caught in the crossfire. Now to keep her safe he will risk it all: his career, his life…and his heart.

REVIEW

We've already met Gwen and Neil in the previous books and we know how Gwen feels about him, though now it seems that her feelings might be reciprocated. Tired of getting some reaction from Neil she has put the ball in his camp, if he wants something to happen he will have to make the move.

While Neil is contemplating what to do with Gwen, an old marine buddy of his returns with some bad news. It seems someone is wiping out all the members of his old team. When it seems this person is not just targeting him, but also Gwen he realizes he will do whatever it takes to protect her. It is obvious his enemy has access to the latest technology and knows more about Neil's mission than anyone should be allowed. So he and Gwen take off and go on the run.

Like the others in the series I simply enjoyed reading it. There is plenty of suspense, maybe even a bit too much and lots of romance to keep you interest. The focus this time was more on who was after them than on the blooming relationship, with the balance weighing more on the first part. Neil and Gwen though are total opposites and still they fit perfectly together. His intensity and her light humour balance each other out great.

What I also love about this series is how present the characters from the other books are. You see their story continuing and how they play a part in the current one. In this case it was mostly Blake, as he is Gwen's older brother and he also feels very protective over her.

Overall another good story, with not just romance but suspense and mystery without it being too overwhelming. The tension is always build up very nicely and the drama is just right.
