Review: Dream Of You (Laurel Heights #5) by Kate Perry

Love sucks.

Lola Carmichael's known it since her boyfriend broke up with her the night she expected him to propose. Only with a deadline looming for her next romance novel, she better find inspiration fast.

Enter arrogant sports radio DJ Sam Touchdown Taylor. Who'd have thought a playboy ex-jock would be just what she needs to get her creative juices flowing…and her heart beating again.

When Lola discovers Sam is using her to win back his dream job, she knows she should give up on Happily Ever After, but part of her hopes heroes do exist…and dreams do come true.
Review:
I didn't like Dream Of You as much as the other books in the Laurel Heights series. First of all, the story is kind of recycled from the first in the series. The heroine has lost her mojo and needs it back, because she is on a deadline and if she doesn't meet it there will be some grave consequences.

The details are different though. This time the hero (Sam) has an ulterior motive to get into her bed and he has an adorable eleven-year-old daughter. It was all pretty clear cut. Lola and Sam hook up and at first it's just a fling, but it might turn into something more. Let's just say I didn't feel the excitement. Between Sam and Lola I did, but not on the overall story.

This time the third POV had absolutely nothing to do with the main storyline, which was a disappointment and it really felt unnecessary in this book. Considering the book is only 157 pages long, you don't really need a second story line.

I feel because it was so short and then adding the second storyline is what mainly caused it to not be as good. Also if she adds a hundred pages to all of her books they could be so much better, giving them more depth. Dream Of You is still a fun read, but by now I'm used to better by Kate Perry.

Review: Looking For You (Laurel Heights #4) by Kate Perry

Gwendolyn Pierce has a secret. A big secret.

No one knows that the gourd artist is really the missing Grape Princess—the wine heiress who ran away fourteen years before. And that's the way Gwen likes it. No paparazzi recording her every mistake, no stern family disapproving of her life. She has her gourd shop in Laurel Heights and lives in peaceful bliss.

Until she meets Rick Clancy.

The last person she should get involved with is a private investigator who finds her as suspicious as he does sexy. Only she can't help herself, and she can't help wondering if she can trust him with her secrets—and her heart.
Review:
Finally something is happening between Gwen and Rick. The tensions has been building in the previous book and now they collide. They are still throwing words at each other, but it just was a matter of time before they caved in. The dynamic between these two was simply awesome and so fun to read.

Gwen is a wine heiress, but she left that life behind her to live in anonymity. Nobody knows who she is and she likes to keep it that way. Rick has always known Gwen was hiding something, but while trying to figure it out, he became more interested in the woman herself than the secret. Before he knows it she has captivated him. There is still the threat of uncovering Gwen's secret, but it won't be coming from Rick. That guy is in too deep.

I liked how Gwen chose her own path. To find happiness she had to leave a lot behind, but I think most was worth it.

What I also really like how there is always a third POV/character that gets their own storyline. It's short and sweet, but also gives you more insight in their thought process as they often have an influence on the main story line.

I think Looking For You has been my favourite so far. Gwen is just that little extra crazy and Rick is simply the total package. The mystery in the plot makes it a bit more interesting and the hot scenes are as delicious as ever. Another great one from Kate Perry.

Review: Return To You (Laurel Heights #3) by Kate Perry

That rat bastard Michael Wallace is back.

The last person Olivia Parker expects to walk into her lingerie shop is her high school sweetheart. She's so over him. Mostly. Except that he's hotter than ever and still knows her better than she knows herself. But how can she risk her heart when she knows he's just going to leave again?

It's a simple plan: return home, shoot the movie, and leave emancipated from the contract he signed eleven years before. But Michael's plan gets blown away the moment he sees Olivia again. Smart, sexy, and successful, Olivia is distraction personified. Only worse than that—Michael fears Olivia may be his heart and soul…
Review:
A romance that will make swoon, swelter and want to pull your hair. Michael and Olivia are made for each other and it seems everybody knows that, even themselves. It's just that Michael left Olivia behind eleven years ago and she's not ready to forgive him so easily. They know they have amazing chemistry, but they also know this will only last until Michael is done shooting the movie.

When it comes to the brain or heart you know which they should best listen to. There are just some obstacles they need to overcome and if it wasn't for everyone meddling it would work out a lot faster.

The thing about such short reads is that it often misses depth. This was really obvious with Return To You, even though we've met Olivia in the previous book and I really like her, some things are still missing to connect with her. It was even worse with Michael.

The story takes place over several months, but it barely feels like two weeks. This all makes it feel a bit rushed sometimes, when it really isn't since they've been going at it for like three months or even longer.

This doesn't mean I did not enjoy the book, because I did. Still I know I won't remember it for very long. It's a "read, fun and forget"-story.

Review: Close to You (Laurel Heights #2) by Kate Perry

When Treat Byrnes walks into her bookstore café, Eve Alexander wants to eat him up. Bad boy isn’t her usual flavor, but for the sexy contractor, she’s willing to take a walk on the wild side.

Treat meets Eve on a reconnaissance mission for his mother, who owns a neighboring teashop, but he keeps going back to Eve for her sweet smile and sassy shoes. He has a history of falling for damsels-in-distress, but Eve doesn’t need rescuing. Not even when her cafe is sabotaged.

But when Treat finds out the saboteur is his own mother, he knows he has to do something before things go too far.
Review:
I already liked Eve from Perfect From You and now she is living her dream. She has her own café/bookstore/bakery going on and she is loving it, even though the bills aren't always agreeing with her. Now an opportunity has arisen which can put Grounds For Thought on the map.

Only weird things keep happening around the café, putting Eve's chance in danger. While trying to uncover who is behind the sabotage, she mustn't get distracted by hot guys like Treat. Since he first stepped inside Grounds For Thoughts and saw Eve, it's pretty much or at least lust on first sight.

What Treat and Eve don't know is that Treat's mother is behind the sabotage and what Eve also doesn't know is that his mother is her competition from across the street. You know this will all end up in drama before they can have their HEA.

Close To You is another fun and fast read. Seriously the tempo I'm reading this series is ridiculous. It's a sweet romance story, which doesn't require too much thinking and won't take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. Great book for on the beach or any holiday really or sunday afternoon...

Review: Perfect for You (Laurel Heights #1) by Kate Perry

Freya Godwin's muse has gone MIA.

With Freya just hired to redesign the top adult website company in the country, her muse couldn't have chosen a worse time to disappear. Determined to get her sexy back, Freya puts an ad online, hoping to find the right man to inspire her.

Unfortunately, all roads point back to her upstairs neighbor Greg Cavanaugh. He's everything she doesn't want: a playboy and scumbag lawyer. Except if he's so wrong for her, why does his touch feel like magic? And why does being with him make her believe anything is possible?
Review:
Perfect For You tells the story about two sisters (Freya and Kate), who's parent died in a car accident many years ago. Now Freya has been taking care of her younger sisters since then. She is a web designer and Kate is in college studying art.

Only not everything is as good as it seems. Freya's muse has left her just when she needs it for a huge client. Her job and sister's college career are at risk if she doesn't find any inspiration.

Also Kate is studying art, except she actually wants to be a lawyer, but she's afraid to tell her sister. Freya despises lawyers ever since the accident, which she believes was their fault.

Now Freya has come to the conclusion that she will be able to find her muse again if she can just bring the passion back in her life. So she comes up with the "brilliant" idea of putting up a personal ad. Which isn't really necessary when her upstairs neighbour, Greg, is available. He's handsome, successful, smart and witty. The only problem is that he is a lawyer.

Still Greg and also Anna think he's perfect for Freya. So Anna comes up with the plan to drive Freya in Greg's arms. Then Freya might find some love and realise lawyers are not all bad people.

The plot of Perfect For You is very predictable, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I really like the build up of the story, the sexy scenes certainly will you get you all hot and bothered, but what I liked most were the characters. Each and every one of them was awesome. The dialogues were very realistic and the things said/written made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Overall a very enjoyable read.
